MGM Resorts sets its sights on Japan

MGM Resorts (MGM) predicts it will have a casino in Osaka operating before the 2020 Tokyo Olympics if the government passes a bill on gambling later this year.

The company has been one of the most bullish in the sector on the upside for  casino revenue in Japan.

The world in general, and American business casino owners in particular, have their eyes set on Japan’s twin cities as they will soon open casino resorts. We evaluate how this move will impact the global gambling industry

Why is MGM coming out every other day with something about Japan? I think LVS and / or WYNN will have something to say about who gets the business. Japanese Politicians better get off their hands soon or having Gaming up and running for the olympics in 2020 will be a pipe dream

MGM may have their sights on Japan, but it will be WYNN who will be building their resorts first. All I really see here is a power struggle between the casinos and the Yakuza, fighting over the rights to build a Japanese version of Las Vegas.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Casinos & Yakuza, what a combo, prime for economic crime. And it won't be a struggle. The typical Yakuza these days is no longer the guy with permed hair and a full body tattoo. They're into all kinds of legitimate businesses, not to mention politicians, as well as traditional vices. The largest and most vicious criminal organization in the world, the Yamaguchi-gumi, are headquartered in Kobe, a short way down the coast from Osaka. This will be a huge gift for them, and there's no way they're not going to let it happen. Think of the the mob in the early days of Las Vegas, but with a thousand times more presence.
    Long LVS, MGM and MPEL.
