Analysis: Plenty of upside for Pitney Bowes

Pitney Bowes (PBI +2.6%) trades higher after Barron's writer Jack Hough indicates in a positive piece that shares could soar over the next three years.

The bullish take on PBI is that the profitable postal meter business is still steady, while digital products and services provide new growth channels.

I have almost doubled my money (1.9 times) in PBI since I bought it and recommended it on this board after the CEO change. I think the Forbes article is understating PBI's potential. It is going to at least double again.

I bought PBI after watching the old CEO on Kramer a few years ago. The story was it paid a high dividend that could be sustained by its old line business and it was opening up new revenue lines that would pay big. The shares then fell by half on hang-wringing over the dividend's sustainability. A new CEO cut the dividend and paid off some of the debt. The shares doubled as the new revenue growth became more visible. Often analysis of the dangers of high dividends overlook the fact that one is being paid handsomely for holding a stock and the worse thing, a dividend cut, turns out to be profitable.

I bought PBI right before they cut the dividend. I was upset as I am a dividend investor, but the yield is still very nice. And a 95% increase in share price has cheered me up. I sure enjoyed this article this weekend in Barron's.

Leadership in companies and countries means a lot.

That is why PBI is doing so well and why the USA is in deep doo doo.
