New homes sales gain in April; March revised upward

  • New single-family home sales of 433K in April were 6.4% above the revised March rate of 407K (originally reported as just 384K), but 4.2% lower than a year ago. The confidence (or lack thereof) level on any one month of reading is plus or minus 15.9%.
  • The median sales price of $275.8K is down 1.3% Y/Y.
  • The supply of homes on the market is 5.3 months at the current sales rate, down from 5.6 months in March.

    percent (±3.2%) above” appears in the text, this indicates the range (-0.7 to +5.7 percent) in which the actual percent change is likely to have occurred. All ranges
    given for percent changes are 90-percent confidence intervals and account only for sampling variability
