- Rio Tinto (RIO) appoints Alfredo Barrios as CEO of its aluminum business, replacing Jacynthe Côté, who is leaving for personal reasons to pursue other interests.
- Barrios is a 22-year veteran at BP, where his most recent role was as executive director at the TNK-BP joint venture.
- Côté became CEO in 2009, following Rio’s disastrous 2007 takeover of Alcan; she is credited with making operations much more competitive and profitable in a difficult environment for all aluminum companies.
