Styker rumored to be mulling a bid for Smith & Nephew

Market chatter is building that Styker (SYK +1.8%) is exploring an offer for Smith & Nephew (SNN +2.7%), although the company denies it intends to submit a takeover bid as reported by the Financial Times.

    With the recent Zimmer takeover of Biomet, the pressure is certainly on S&N. Either they put themselves in buying mode to close the gap between them and Stryker in the orthopedic marketplace, or they will definitely become the target of an acquisition.
