Greenpeace protestors have been removed by police from a Statoil (STO) rig in the Barents Sea where the company plans to drill the world's most northerly oil well.

Norwegian authorities obtained permission to board from the Marshall Islands, where the rig is registered, as it was traveling through international waters.

Fifteen activists boarded the Transocean Spitsbergen rig early Tuesday morning; eight had already left before police arrived.
