More on Dollar General's FQ1

Dollar General (DG) reports comparable-store sales rose 1.5% in FQ1.

The retailer says it saw improving trends by the end of the quarter with both traffic and average ticket improved.

Gross profit rate -57 bps to 30.0%.

A higher mix of consumables such as tobacco and perishables during the quarter cut into margin rates.

    They are building out stores all over south west Florida. As I drive the parking lots always seem to have plenty of cars. The future here looks bright. Anyone have information on other areas of the country?

    They continue to blanket the US with stores, adding 5-700 annually lately. I venture a guess they will be in the 8,000-9,000 category by years end.
