The S&P 500 is edging to break the 2,000 mark. After Friday's close, the index would only need a 2.5% gain to boost it to the 2k level.
It still may take a little time to advance though, as the index has not made a 1% move in a single session in almost two months.
Despite the S&P moving higher, there has been mixed signals from the U.S. economy. Employment data showed on Friday 217,000 jobs added in May, recording a record level of employment since the recession in 2008. However, the U.S. economy shrank by an annual rate of 1% for the first quarter of 2014.
