Ukraine, Russia at a standstill in gas talks

Ukraine and Russia have failed to reach an agreement in their latest gas talk negotiations. The E.U. is brokering the deal to avoid a cutoff of its supplies, as it relies heavily on the gas piped through Ukraine.

Although Ukraine transferred $786M last week to Russian state gas exporter Gazprom (OGZPY), the two still cannot come to an agreement regarding past and future supply prices.

Talks may resume today at 9 p.m. central European time or tomorrow morning.

Here in the US, there have been cash-strapped states that have had to sell off toll roads and other items.

With a similar line of reasoning, I suppose Ukraine could get a lot of money if it were to sell Russia...the oblasts of Donetsk and Lugansk!
