Gas deadline passes for Ukraine; no deal

The 6:00 a.m GMT deadline for Ukraine to pay its $1.95B bill to Russia's Gazprom (OGZPY) has passed. Ukraine now faces a potential shut off to its supply, as all gas going forward must be prepaid.

The gas also flows through Ukraine to additional parts of Europe, threatening the supply in a number of other countries.

The two attempted to continue the EU-brokered talks yesterday evening, although they could not settle their pricing dispute.

Ukraine wants to dictate the terms, only because they have USA on their side.

This is what happens when you dont pay your gas bill.

I wonder why they are now claiming the deal they signed before was overmarket price?
Was that the difference between the Ukranian politicians kickback and the market price one wonders.

The EU and US support has not helped resolve this issue.
Ukraine isn't mature enough for Western membership yet

It is June. Gas for heat is not exactly a burning issue at the moment.

Minor in amount - heat over the winter is where bulk amounts of the stuff are used.

From a recent news report "Ukraine itself has enough reserves to last until December, according to the chief of Ukraine's state gas company Naftogaz."
