SunTrust settles with government over mortgages

SunTrust (STI +1.4%) will pay $968M ($500M of consumer relief and $468M cash) to settle legacy mortgage issues with HUD, the DOJ, the CFPB, and 49 state attorneys general.

The deal covers deficiencies not just in mortgage origination, but servicing and foreclosures.
