Exxon in the spotlight with impending Obama gay rights move

Exxon Mobil (XOM) may have to change its employment policies after Pres. Obama signs an executive order - expected soon - barring federal contractors from discriminating based on sexual orientation or gender identity.

XOM is one of the largest companies that doesn’t already ban discrimination against gay workers on its own, according to gay rights groups, but the company's policy would have to change if it wants to keep doing business with the federal government.

Is congress allowed to pass bills anymore based on what the nation wants, or is King Obama going to press all parts of his agenda via executive orders?

Perhaps he could sign an order instructing the NSA find those missing IRS emails.

That may be true, but Bush did not issue these despicable and divisive orders that King Obama continues to do.

This has GOT to change. I remember the slogan, "Remember the Maine" and "Remember the Alamo". All went to REMEMBERING American values. I say, "REMEMBER THE CONSTITUTION?" With a question mark. Because likely as it seems, no one seems to make the President adhere to it no how, no way after he was sworn to up hold it.

While I agree with Brian and SoldHigh, the article is silly. ExxonMobil has had anti-discrimination policies in place for decades. The only difference is that it does not specifically cite sexual orientation because it is a much broader policy. It will not hurt the corporation to add a few words if Congress doesn't have the backbone to tell King Obama what he can do with his executive orders.

When will we stop Obama from behaving like a dictator. We should all write our representatives to start a law suit against Obama legislating by executive orders! It is against the constitution . He is MAKING laws instead of executing them.
This is just another example of him stripping way outside of his constitutional powers.
    When will he be stopped?

Sadly, many voters elected him, not once but twice. The ignorant American people get what they deserve and the rest of us have to suffer the consequences, too.

Re: ""Sadly, many voters elected him, not once but twice. The ignorant American people get what they deserve . . "".

Yup. Did we deserve the greatest recession since the great depression? Did we deserve an unnecessary war in Iraq, where we lost more American servicemen than people who died in the 9/11 attacks?

Yup. Tax cuts for the rich would create jobs and promote growth! Yup. We would bring democracy to the Middle East, and the Iraqis would welcome us with open arms!

Yup, many voters elected [George W. Bush], not once but twice!!!

OOPS: This is supposed to be about the stock market, not politics. Let's see:
When GW Bush was inaugurated in 2001, the Dow was at 10587.60.

When Barack Obama was was inaugurated in 2009, the Dow was at 7949.10, a 24.9% decline from inauguration day 2001.

Now the Dow is at 16808, a 111% increase from inauguration day 2009.

A man goes into a restaurant, his server is wearing an 'Obama 2012' button on her apron. After he is finished eating, he pays the tab, leaves the restaurant and outside he gives a homeless man some money.

He comes back into the restaurant and says to the waitress, "I see you're voting for Obama". She replies, "Yes I am." "I just wanted to tell you that I redistributed your tip to the homeless guy outside the restaurant, have a nice day".

You must really be flying high if you don't get it. He hit the target square on. It was not meant to be funny. It was meant to stir up people like you to make this your very first post to SA. It obviously stuck in your craw for you to comment.

Charliezap, you do make a point. However, instead of making Gates, Buffett and all his Hollywood buddies richer, you fail to mention the price of gas, chicken, beef, electricity, etc. Where was true inflation when Bush left office (btw, I am not his fan)? So, you tell me where the hard working middle class is with no food stamps, welfare and higher taxes. It seems that liberals never want or try to analyze how some EO's & lawlessness can affect "them" in the long term. You probably do not care about the IRS scandal but if you did some critical thinking, you would be frightened of the same powers going to the other side and coming after you, maybe.
So you see, all this does have consequences for everyone. You obviously use your mind since it seems that you do have investments so use it to figure out how corrupt this administration really is.

It is the most corrupt, incompetent administration in US history. Brit Hume (not exactly a hard core conservative) recently stated that it is a "failed Presidency". It should not come as a surprise to anyone with half a brain. When you elect someone primarily because he is a gifted speaker (with zero foreign policy or management experience) then this is what you get. When the Presidential election becomes more than simply a popularity contest then maybe we will make some progress. The bottom line is that we have gone almost 15 years WITHOUT effective Presidential leadership. In these crisis-prone times that is not a good thing for this country. We actually need REAL hope and change, not just phony slogans.
