Glu Mobile +11.1% following Android TV announcement (updated)

Glu Mobile's (GLUU) Deer Hunter 2014 and Eternity Warrior 2 are already available on Google's new Android TV platform. Each title supports 1080p gameplay on TV sets.

Android TV, revealed yesterday at Google I/O, supports controller-based gaming to go with a variety of media options. Sony, Philips, and Sharp have promised to offer Android TV sets in 2015, and Razer and Asus promise to offer set-tops. Initial volumes could be limited, particularly compared with smartphone shipments.

Amazon included gaming support within its recently-launched Fire TV set-top, and Apple is expected to do so in its next-gen Apple TV. Each platform is hoping to appeal casual gamers by offering cheap hardware that can leverage giant mobile gaming ecosystems.

Glu is at its highest levels since early April.

Update: A strong reception for the recently-launched Kim Kardashian: Hollywood is helping Glu rally.

This is not the reason GLU popped. It popped because of strong 2 day showing of GLU's game "Kim Kardashian: Hollywood" released on iOS Apple Store - US two days ago on June 24th.

As of last night, KKH ranked #2 in downloads and #8 in revenue per App Annie charts. I have estimated that a Top #10 revenue rank translates to a quarterly revenue of $50M, and a Top #15 revenue rank translates into a quarterly revenue of $30M.

Big if, though, if KKH can remain this high. Lots of games fade quickly after the initial week of buzz in social media.

But still, this is a better start than all other games GLU has launched in the past 6 months.

    Thanks for the comment Larry.

Really looking forward to the (GLUU) earnings report. Hopefully another beat which will finally convince investors that this play will be heading much higher in the next few months!

History shows that Glu will beat, but the party never seems to last long. Short interest increased by about 10% earlier this month. I believe part of the pop yesterday was due to a short squeeze and definately you can see it today when GLUU shot up above $4.50 and quickly came back down...shorts are certainly getting squeeeeezed...haha

It seems unavoidable that game revenue (and party length) is going to be lumpy as new titles are relatively infrequent and some do better than others. However, hopefully over time investors will come to realize that Glu's frremium monetization platform and game refresh expertise provide an ability to generate a relatively consistent revenue stream even as some games do better than others.

If the Kardashian game has any legs maybe its' the start of a new genre.

It's not the Android TV announcement that is driving the price up, but rather than crazy (and mildly disturbing) success of the recently released Kim Kardashian: Hollywood app.

$GLUU is estimated to be making $300k a day (on iOS) from Kim Kardashian's game that was released last week.
This game has been extremely successful and has risen to levels that no other GLUU games reached (not even dear hunter 2014)

I even played the game for 15-20 minutes on my iPad just to see how's the game and to be honest it makes you feel as if you are actually in beverly hills pursuing your acting career…………

GLUU's Kim Kardashian Game is ranked amongst top 5 grossing Apps for iOS in about 17 countries,
More importantly it's ranked 5th in US and Canada , 3rd in Australia and UK just behind candy crush Saga and 1st in Iceland, Macedonia and Kenya.

Also note that EV/Revenue for GLUU is 2.7 while EV/Revenue for KING is 2.19 the only difference being that KING has already hit the jackpot with Candy Crush (and will rely on candy crush saga to maintain that low ev/rev ratio while GLUU still has to hit a jackpot) and you know what will happen if GLUU hits a jackpot....
