With its DSL business facing tough competition from cable providers, Windstream (WIN) is returning fire by launching an integrated DSL/online video service called Merge. For an extra $2/month, Merge gives DSL subs a Roku streaming box and (until June) 6 months of free Hulu Plus. By year's end, Windstream also plans to roll out a proprietary online video service featuring on-demand movies and off-air HD channels. Other DSL providers could hatch similar plans.

The content delivery bubble will pop when Apple moves in and/or when viewers can purchase individual channels.
