Self-published ebooks aren't sold in bricks and mortar stores anyway, so would have no impact in that respect.

But it would be untrue to say that most self-pubbed books are excluded from the survey because they do not have ISBNs.

Many indies do have ISBNs (which are necessary to get into several ebook stores) and many more wil be using assigned ISBNs provided by an aggregator such as Smashwords or D2D.

A recent report for the UK indicated self-published titles made up just 3% of overall income generated by ebooks (and of course close to zero for print), and no doubt the figures aren't far dissimilar for the US.
