Volkswagen looks to new upmarket Passat

Volkswagen (VLKAY) will start selling a new upmarket Passat in Europe starting in November.

The German automaker is trying to slip the Passat out of the middle market into the luxury market where demand is more stable.

Analysts see some risk in the move with core Passat buyers potentially getting alienated and outpriced in the upscale process.
