Obama, Merkel threaten Russian sanctions

  • President Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel have threatened to increase Russian sanctions, if the country does not work to de-escalate the crisis in Ukraine. U.S. officials believe pro-Russian separatists are receiving a steady flow of weapons and fighters from Russia.
  • With the authorization from President Petro Poroshenko, Ukraine this week has been advancing on rebel strongholds along its eastern border.

Aside from the obvious any sanctions on Putin and his associates hurt given Russian economy is in the hands of Putin and his close associates. Nothing happened. World did not and will not launch nukes cause some Russian speaking people want to join Russia and leave "Ukraine" .

Remember folks, concerning any possible border changes for the benefit of the Russian-speakers of eastern Ukraine, that the US actually has a major forty-year history of accepting very violent border changes.

Examples include the 1974 de facto partitioning of Cyprus along lines favorable to the Turks, the 1990s breakup of Yugoslavia into seven separate nations, and the 1973 creation of of a de facto Kurdistan. The Yugoslavia breakup involved an especially active US diplomatic and military effort to destroy an entire nation.

Putin has already taken the US seriously: Russia is moving making significant moves to isolate its infrastructure from the impact of sanctions now and in the future. Moves it would not have made w/o the current sanctions in effect.

Obama has shown nothing but utter weakness to Russia just like everywhere else in his 2nd term. This gives Russia time to make any new sanctions as worthless as the sanctions Obama already implemented which is really nothing but a absolute joke.

This has made Poland state that US military support is currently worthless which is sadly a bit too obvious to speak about publically.

Yes, what we need here is some mutually assured self destruction. What are we waiting for? It's the only way.

This commenter seems to want the US to lead a military struggle against Russia. But so far I have seen no real plan from him, just gripes. He should state a real plan. And he should detail how many of his loved ones are ready to be in the front lines, next to those Ukrainian neo-Nazi thugs.

Beyond my general sympathy with the Russians of Donetsk and Luhansk, I must remind this commenter that it is much easier to start a war than to end a war.

Go help Poland with your own military. Many Americans are tired of America footing the bill.

Im afraid the jokes on you. You care , spend and know about as much about the "Ukraine" as the average Ukrainian does with/about you. In reality if media would stop talking about it so would you.

PS. Then VP Cheney did the same thing about "Georgia". Nothing. Nobody is launching nukes over it thats for sure

Yeah, but what good is China? It's not like Canada just Ok'd Enbridge Pipeline and China can supply Russia with some extra oil if the need arises.

Putin will school the both of them. See how he got all that Russian money out of Cyrus by suggesting that Russia might bail out those banks. Meanwhile wire transfers were flying out of Russia !!

Bought two days with that move...
