Activists block Chevron shale site in Romania

Greenpeace activists block access to Chevron's (CVX -0.7%) shale gas exploration well in eastern Romania, chaining themselves to empty oil drums at the gates of the facility in a protest urging the country to ban fracking.

CVX, the first company to begin exploring for shale gas in Romania, hopes to put up more wells in the area and has said it does not plan to use fracking under its five-year exploration program.

Romania could potentially hold 51T cu. ft. of shale gas, which would cover domestic demand for more than a century.

First Germany, eventually the rest of Europe. Sure hope we don't bail them out when they have an oil shortage and are freezing in the dark. Let the Russians and Saudis gouge them.

Hardly matters to Chevron but bad news for Romania and good news for Gazprom, who is probably financing this "activism" in much of Europe
