Just when I thought I understood did AAL lose money on hedging if the price of crude has been increasing in the second quarter?

Where is the charge for the $750million that AAL has stranded in Venezuela and will never recover whole?
Sooner or later they will have to deal with this problem without hiding the head in the sand. The same goes for all other airlines that have been servicing the
    Venezuelan market.

I'm noticing a considerable amount of articles on trapped airline money in Venezuela. I don't believe this will impact the bottom line but much. AAL flies the most into Venezuela but it is such a small part of their overall revenue it won't amount to much. Look at what they are writing off in Q2 just for bankruptcy expenses and fuel hedging. This is a mere blip of their gross income. The pain will be large on newly communist Venezuela. How a country can transform from a country that relies on the the rule of law and free enterprise (to some degree) then changes gov't and sees hope in the thoroughly debunked communist economics paradigm is beyond my comprehension in less than 10 yrs is a mystery to me. The people of Venezuela will suffer greatly compared to companies with trapped money in that country.
