InvenSense higher following fresh Apple report

Rosenblatt Securities thinks InvenSense (INVN +1.7%) has won a mixture of sole-source and shared iPhone 6, iPad, and iWatch gyroscope slots.

Pac Crest and Craig-Hallum raised the possibility of Apple design wins in June, but wouldn't go as far as to confirm them. Rumors of 2013 design wins didn't pan out.

Nice to know, but until confirmation suppositions such as these only increase risk going forward. October will tell.

I have to agree. After debunking them all last year, I'd already predicted that the Apple rumors would come true this year, though not quite in the ways predicted. When they do, the terms of the deal will have to be evaluated carefully. Apple has a way of bargaining for volume, thereby eroding supplier margins, and then wrecking them when they switch to another supplier.

None of this is likely to have any real (as opposed to the current psychological) impact until well after the earnings call at the end of the month. My recent update explains what to look for, and why the recent acquisitions make sense, but are not necessarily a good sign.

Esekla, don't you think all signs will be positive there is inclusion with Apple if at the end of the month during the earnings call next quarter's guidance is significantly higher?

It would have to be one heck of a guidance raise to justify the current price. That's why I mention examining the terms of any deal, if there is one. I think it's too soon for that in any case. Anyone who's been following along has to realize the potential for a disappointment that's even more severe than the prior quarter. Short-term institutional hedging of the hedges that long-term holders are putting in place against such a possibility might actually be what's helping to keep the stock high. See my Momentum Mechanism article for details.

Regardless of the market mechanics, INVN is already at the year-end price target I set for it a while back. Yet recent developments have been mildly negative, showing that the road map I laid out is going to take longer than anticipated rather than confirming progress.

Please ask any further questions in my article, as I'm checking out of this thread.
