- Dish Network (NASDAQ:DISH) will "meaningfully" participate in the FCC's giant 2015 low-frequency (600 MHz.) spectrum auction, according to a filing.
- The satellite TV provider owns a sizable amount of high-frequency spectrum well-suited for outdoor coverage in dense urban areas. The 2015 auction involves spectrum better suited for rural and in-building coverage.
- Dish longstanding efforts to find a partner for its spectrum haven't yet borne fruit. The NY Post reported in June Verizon is "very interested" in buying Dish's spectrum.
- The FCC set rules in May restricting how much spectrum AT&T and Verizon, who already have considerable low-frequency assets, can buy through the auction. Sprint and T-Mobile were quite pleased with the move.
