Republic Airways (RJET -8.8%) unit Frontier Airlines bucks an industry trend by operating without a hedge on rising fuel prices. Though most U.S. carriers have hedges in place to cover 20%-40% of their fuel costs, CEO Bryan Bedford says Frontier will use lower operating costs and higher ticket prices to make up ground if aviation fuel stays expensive.
