Google (GOOG) is renaming Android Market, grouping together its app, music, video, and e-book storefronts under a platform called Google Play. Count this as another example of Larry Page's efforts to counter Apple (AAPL) by integrating disparate products and attempting to offer a more polished user experience - efforts that have undoubtedly created some friction (I, II, III).

    Lousy name choice....maybe should have brought everything under the Android name instead. Google Play is about as bad as Qwikster.
