"American Funds is now filing to enter the 21st century," writes's Dave Nadig, who spotted a regulatory filing from the American Funds parent, Capital Research & Management, seeking permission to offer a suite of actively-managed ETFs.

American Funds is a mutual fund giant, with $1.1T under traditional active management, and with eight of the 20 largest mutual funds in the U.S.
