Ecolab profit surges on global energy segment, raises guidance

Ecolab (ECL -0.3%) sports modest gains after reporting a 46% surge in Q2 earnings, boosted by 20% Y/Y revenue growth as its global energy segment.

ECL also issued in-line Q3 guidance, forecasting EPS of $1.18-$1.22 vs. $1.20 analyst consensus estimate, and raising the lower end of its 2014 EPS to $4.14-$4.20 vs. prior guidance of $4.10-$4.20 and $4.18 consensus.

ECL's $2.2B acquisition of chemical maker Champion Technologies last year further expanded the company's presence in the market for chemicals used by the high-growth oil and gas sector.
