Disney higher after Marvel delivers again

Shares of Disney (DIS +1.3%) are higher than market averages after Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy stuns at the box office in its three-day debut.

The $94M tally set a record for an August opening and bodes well for Marvel as it dipped into a lesser-known pot of superheros and scripted a lighter tone to the film.

The production budget on the film was $170M.

A sequel is planned for 2017.

I believe that should be $95M, though I'm sure DIS would love a $94B opening weekend.

DIS closed on July 18 at $85.81 and I estimated on July 19 that 12 month TP would hit $79 - $102. DIS remains to trade on a plateau since then despite jittery that has pushed down the general market.

Since breaking out in end June, DIS has been trading in a rectangular pattern, range $84.87 - $87.63. The height of this rectangle is $2.76, should DIS break out from this pattern, short term TP is $90.39. This estimation is usually conservative.

So far today, we are seeing one of the strongest bottoming 'morning Doji Star' pattern. Projected trading volume today could hit 6.94 M shares that will be 31% higher than 10 day average of 5.3M.
