Apple's (AAPL) iPhoto app, announced yesterday at its iPad event, uses home-grown mapping software rather than Google Maps (GOOG). The switch could be evidence that Apple, which has acquired 3 mapping startups in recent years, plans to phase out its integration of Google Maps with iOS in favor of a proprietary solution.

    Apple can be the company to prove Google is not unique. It follows from Steve Jobs desire to "go thermo nuclear" on Google.
