PepsiCo to fight Aunt Jemima suit

PepsiCo (PEP +0.6%) has been sued for $2B by the descendents of a woman who was the inspiration for the Aunt Jemima brand.

The filing also asks for the judge to ban Aunt Jemima syrup and pancake products in parts of Africa.

The company says the federal suit filed in Chicago is without merit.

The people suing are the only ones damaging black Americans... Aunt Jemima is an iconic brand/syrup. If the person who was the inspiration agreed to using her image than the descendants should just stop wasting peoples time. Get a life/job and do something meaningful with your lives.

The complaint is just "without merit"? Try "insane by any known rational standard." This is a textbook case of a "nuisance lawsuit," where the hope to extract money just for going away.

Having been an expert witness in several product liability cases I am glad someone is fighting instead of just giving in because it might cost too much.
Giving in simply encourages more frivolous law suits and is more costly in the long run.
