Box office: Guardians of the Galaxy still strong, weekend U.S. cume +17% Y/Y


Guardians of the Galaxy took over the top spot on the domestic box office list again with a $38.3M weekend globally to push its cume to $489M.

The Marvel (NYSE:DIS) movie is on track to become the top-grossing movie of the year.

Lucy opened well in several international markets to help the Universal (NASDAQ:CMCSA) film push over the $100M mark for its first 30 days on a production budget estimated at $40M.

The top 12 films earned $105.4M in the U.S., up 17% from last year's corresponding level.
