$500M and counting for Guardians of the Galaxy

Guardians of the Galaxy sailed past the $500M box office mark this week as it continues to play well in global markets.

The Marvel (NYSE:DIS) film, which has still yet to open in China, Germany, and Japan, is forecast to hold to the top spot on the domestic box office list for the Labor Day weekend in the U.S.

Disney came into the summer with some risk on the table with Guardians, but is coming out with a potential blockbuster franchise.

Could pass a billion given the size of China, Japan, and German markets. Then figure the consumer product sales and other synergies another Frozen for DIS.

Guardians of the Galaxy does a better job of recreating that 80s era feel of action, cheese, and humor than most sequels 30 years removed have done. No wonder why it is so popular. It doesn't try to be something it's not. Instead it just offers some simple fun that everybody from kids to seniors can enjoy.
