Apple sends out invites for Sep. 9 event

"9.9.2014. Wish we could say more," reads Apple's (AAPL +0.3%) press invite. The event will be held at 1PM ET in Cupertino.

Apple's event is widely expected to feature the unveiling of 4.7" and 5.5" iPhone 6 models. Re/code reported yesterday a wearable device will also be shown off.

The invite shortly follows a Wired report stating the iPhone 6 will feature an NFC radio and support a new mobile payments platform. That meshes with past reports from VentureBeat, the WSJ, and others.

If history is any guide, the iPhone 6 will likely go on sale on Friday, Sep. 19, ten days after the launch event.

Update: MacRumors observes Apple has been building a giant hidden structure at the Flint Center, where the event will be held. The Flint Center is where Steve Jobs unveiled the Macintosh 30 years ago.

NFC + fingerprint + iTunes + Apple's guarantee could make for an awfully big credit card facilitation business. Good for merchants because iPhones are ubiquitous and Apple guarantees the authenticity via fingerprint and iTunes security. Interesting.

BTW, I cracked the secret code in the invitation: Apple is coming out with a new black and white TV set!

Maybe not, chop, but apparently Apple thinks it is real big. They are holding it at the original venue for the 1st Mac (seats about 2500) and they are building a very large enclosure for the theater...not your normal iPhone/iPad event. We'll see.

It's not quite an invite without a time and place, but it's good to know the day, at least.

It's also important to note that there's not much gain to be had from the aspects that people are already anticipating. One surprise could be Apple switching to an AMOLED screen for its larger former factor, now that multiple suppliers are becoming available. My articles contrast the opportunity for Universal Display against the already priced-in status of an InvenSense design win.

Jesus, is it that hard to read the full bullets before posting your own advertisement?

Actually, the event is being held at the Flint Center for Performing Arts in Cupertino. Probably indicating bigger event showcasing more than 1 product category, since this location has more than double the capacity of previous Apple event location.

If there is no 5.5" phone on September 9, it's going to tank big time

it's so ironic. Samsung was laughed at when the original Note came out. And here we are, full circle.

Happens a lot; they were laughed at when they brought out their watch, too.

From my friends inside Apple they will be giving a gift to every attendee, not a new phone, watch pad, etc. but an amazing piece of jewelry with a sapphire setting for the new sapphire screens to be on ALL new devices going forward.

MB declares the watch dead since Samsung has all the marketshare. Woe is Mike. No doubt on Sept.5th, an article will be published with the failure of the iWatch to capture marketshare and Apple's imminent doom...
