Report: Apple wearable unlikely to ship before early 2015

Re/code's John Paczkowski: "So that new wearable device Apple (AAPL +0.2%) is introducing on September 9? It’s going to be a while before anyone is actually wearing it. Sources in position to know tell me it won’t arrive at market for a few months."

He doesn't have an exact ETA, but says his understanding is that "we’re unlikely to see [the device] at retail until after the holiday season — think early 2015."

It was only two days ago Paczkowski reported Apple would show off the device - he refrains from calling it the iWatch - at a Sep. 9 event. Apple sent out invites for the event yesterday.

Of course they like to spread rumors especially if they have a short interest. The SEC should investigate the source of these rumors.

He is one of the most reliable of the rumor mongers. He didn't say definitely 15, just not shipping for a few months, so I wouldn't be surprised it it was early December. One thing he did reiterate, though: whatever Apple is up to on the 9th, they think it is a major milestone/turning point in the history of Apple Computer! This venue is undergoing massive construction. And it's for just an iPhone rollout? It is the same place Jobs rolled out the original '84 Mac. GLTA.

BTW, if you haven't heard the now famous--best product pipeline in 25 years statement by Eddy Cue, it is a short listen: http://on.recode.net/1...
I can't imagine why they think a bigger iPhone and a watch are so great, but they seem awfully excited about something.

The combined rumors fly in the face of history. Apple has previously shipped within 6 weeks of announcing a product, depending on geography. Releasing a product in conjunction with a product upgrade announcement is normal, so that rings true.

That's what I said about the Beats acquisition.

"Sources in position to know tell me it won’t arrive at market for a few months." That's about as solid a rumor as you ever get with Apple, so don't plan on any Christmas sales in "new product categories" this year.

find it funny that everybody is so concerned that re/code reported the wearable won't actually ship until next year. How is that bashing the stock or spreading rumors b/c of shorts??? Now if they said it was the worse item every and go buy a Samsung product, than that is a different story. Re/code is just reporting the facts as presented.

I've been long AAPL since 2009 and this news doesn't make me flinch one bit. Just consume it, but don't let it consume you.

Actually for once believe the rumors. Recode, formerly WSJ D, has one the best track records.

I was expecting the same scenario.

Shipping by late 2014 or early 2015 only makes sense, it's a new product category.

Apple can submit the device to certification and start production without running into leaks, developers have time doing apps (in case there is an API).

The first iPhone and iPad were also announced months in advance.

Summary: No worries, business as usual. Short-term, the iPhone6 will produce more than enough revenue.

And I agree with other commenters: The size of the venue and preparation could make Sept 9 a huge product launch, not just an annual refresh.

What do investors think will be the impact of a device that is a secondary device that pairs with a phone as opposed to a stand alone device. Does the market really want another dependent device to the phone?

It is going to be a stand alone device storing all relevant data and relieving it once it is in reach of an iPhone. You can leave your iPhone at home and have the analysis and permanent data transfer once it links up with the core "reading device". IT IS GOING T O BE A BLAST: EVERY 3rd OWNER OF AN IPHONE WILL HAVE IT

Now that Samsung just couple of days ago introduced their new Gear S smartwatch that feature HERE offline navigation and 3g connection it's very interesting to see how Apple answers to that challenge.

Forward guidance doesn't change. Great upside and would infuse Apple with an additional earnings stream in 2015. My article here:

I expect we will "see" it this fall,...but most of us will not be able to purchase, at least not purchase via routine channels, before January. Is this actually so surprising? The schedule is more or less what I have been expecting for months. Using the wearable without the iPhone6 would be an incomplete experience, anyway,...so they need to ramp the phone first.

This probably means, however, that the first FULL quarter of revenue impact for the wearable will not be reported until the beginning of next summer. That is 90 days later than anticipated.

"Does the market really want another dependent device to the phone? "

Investors didn't think the market wanted a tablet. Or a mini tablet. Or to pay for music.

One thing that is fairly certain - Apple knows what the market wants better than the market does.

For some people,it doesn't matter how long it takes apple to roll out these great product(s) of theirs. One funny thing about it is that some people still want to get their hand on one no matter how long it takes.personally,I own two(2) iPads both are from different release or model. While we wait, that gives me ample time to counting the dough in my piggy bank to another isomething.

No pictures, no parts leaks, nothing from the supply chain. Has to be a 2015 product. How could anyone think otherwise? The stock will move on the perceived desirability of the device, not on any immediate contribution to sales. Also, if very desirable, and if it requires an iPhone 6 to work, it will boost iPhone sales next quarter.

MARK MY WORDS. After the presentation of two iPhone 6, the new payment solution, the iWatch with tremendous impact on the health environment they are going to introduce APPLE TV as a major player in IOT home appliances and gaming capabilities. Now count it together.

Biggest upgrade cycle ever, payment solution, wearable device with main focus on health and fitness (what area spends more bucks?), affordable ways to steer your home in every way you can think of and a new hub of entertainment (media, gaming). AND something not even i am am capable of thinking of. Whatfore they hired people from the fashion industry? Only because of an iWatch? Not really. There will be something with will be more in the area of more frequent purchases per client.

Looooooooooooooooooooo... Apple. I´m so happle ;-)

    Apple is coming out swinging

    Payment solution- Paypal killer

    iPad pro- MSFT tablet killer

iPhone 6 s/c- Continued dominance of the smartphone market that actually matters

    Apple TV- Netflix killer

Rumors are mounting that Apple will also start a video upload site, this will be the only viable alternative to YT.

One area that I think they do not need to worry about is the Console gaming market. They made an excellent decision in not focusing on Social Media when everyone was telling them to buy the abysmal company that is Twitter.

Apple is the story of the 21st century.

(owner of- iPad 2, iPad Mini 2 /w Retina and a Mac Mini. I plan on buying an iPad air or an iPad 4 soon and maybe a Mac air if I do well enough! Not interested in the iWatch or the Apple TV)

"Rumors are mounting that Apple will also start a video upload site, this will be the only viable alternative to YT."

Would you have links for this? I don't see Apple dabbling in SocialMedia at the moment, would this more a photo stream companion for personal videos?

YT has such a huge lead that I don't see Apple going into this space. There's more like UStream, Livestream and there are specific niche audience broadcasters like Twitch (now Amazon)...the field is crowded.

So far, Apple did not successfully get Social. (Remember Ping?)

PS: Not that it matters, Apple has more than enough other revenue streams.

Anything and everything written here (and elsewhere) prior to actual announcement by Apple on Sept. 9th is nothing better than rumor and speculation. It don't matter whether you're short or long, all of you'se be spoutin' gibberish 'n junk. Is this the basis on which ya'll do your due diligence and invest your money? What will be, will be. Until then, ya'll are just a-guessin' and a-wishin, pumpin' an' jumpin,' so jus button it up, sit back, relax, contemplate your future earnings, and quit gettin' yer panties in a twist over this speculation.

    Thoughts on the following:
Is the market accounting for two different iphone 6's to be released with glass and camera upgrades? I would say so based upon analysts and many investors and traders who support the stock.

On the other hand, do you think there is expectation for the Sept 9th to be an iwatch or wearable? I didnt think so and do not believe so but I'm reading about the possiblity. I do own apple and will do so into this release but looking to see expectations here.

I also believe Apple will buck historical trends as this release will be impactful on earnings and recapture growth as the upgrade cycle is due along with taking some market share from Android users.

If there is a public regulatory component to the new wearable device (for example the FDA must approve some medical monitoring feature) then Apple will be forced to reveal the product before public documents reveal it for them.

This is widely cited as the reason Jobs revealed the first iPhone months ahead of release -- that the FCC approval process was about to allow any nosey reporter the ability to scoop the story.

I have no idea if Apple will announce a wearable that will not be on sale for months. But if they do, I think it is a safe bet that regulatory approval plays a role in this decision.
