SoftBank to sell robot at Sprint stores by next summer

SoftBank (OTCPK:SFTBY) says it will begin selling a humanoid robot named "Pepper", which is equipped with a laser sensor and 12 hours of battery life, at Sprint (NYSE:S) stores in the U.S. by next summer.

The robot was originally targeted at families and the elderly before getting attention for business use since being unveiled in June.

SoftBank has developed Pepper with an open platform operating system, allowing customization for use in construction, health care and entertainment industries.

Aw I got excited for a sec...I though it was going to be for this holiday season. Sort of a long ways out for a press release, no?

thanks for the more detailed article BAG. As a counterpoint to your comment, I have to say getting this release 1st through Seeking Alpha is one of the reasons I read the site. I've seen a detailed Asimo presentation and think that Pepper will be a fine addition to S. This is actually bigger news than people might realize and compared to watch/smartphones which were talked about for years before, and still waiting release (at least from AAPL) or other technology releases that you hear are coming by 2016 or something of that nature this is quite relevant and near term.

Whenever you read a news release about a product coming in the next two years it gets a thrown in the recycle bin. But if it's coming within 12 months then that's, IMO, relevant enough to garner a news release. Gotta be ahead of the game with information. Thanks again for posting the article. No moving legs on Pepper (unlike Asimo) but as Son pointed out it saves a lot of battery life.

I sense a smart phone being developed and offered by Sprint and Softbank coming out soon. I like the Robot smart phone for the name.

This is only the beginning and it appears Sprint is ahead of the curve.
