AOL media chief Lyne stepping down to run VC fund


Susan Lyne, hired only last year to run AOL's online media ops (save for the Huffington Post), is stepping down to run an AOL VC fund focused on women-led startups. No word yet on who her successor will be.

As head of AOL's brand group, Lyne has presided over a slew of Web properties, including AOL.com, Engadget, TechCrunch, Moviefone, Autoblog, and Joystiq.

AOL's properties (Huffington Post included) delivered Q2 display ad revenue of $144.1M (-1% Y/Y), and search ad revenue of $98.9M (+6%). Average domestic monthly unique visitors rose 18% to 171M.

In a talk with re/code, Lyne notes the brand group returned to profitability during her tenure. At the same time, she expresses disappointment the unit's live video efforts didn't live up to expectations.
