Shell finds gas in Pennsylvania, eyes more wells soon

Royal Dutch Shell (RDS.A, RDS.B) announces a pair of gas discoveries within its Utica formation in Tioga County in Pennsylvania it says are comparable to the best publicly revealed so far in the play.

Shell says its Gee well had an initial flowback rate of 11.2M cf/day of natural gas, while the Neal find has a peak flowback rate of 26.5M cf/day of gas.

The discoveries near the Pennsylvania-New York border indicate the Utica extends hundreds of miles farther east than originally thought.

Shell is awaiting results from four additional Utica wells.

This is a big deal. Now their recent deal to acquire more acreage in the area makes sense. It also puts central south NY State back in play. The Marcellus passed them by.

Anyone know the BTU of the gas? Seneca, Talisman, and Triana have acreage in the county and into Potter county.
