Long-term Treasurys continue to get sold hard, the 10-year yield rising 8 bps to 2.38%, the highest level since late October. A rise above 2.40% would "break resistance" as the chartists like to say, with clear sailing all the way to 3%. TLT -1.4%. (earlier)

Reports are that this is due to hedge fund selling, not economic news.

Hedge fund selling.. Common.... CPI showing 2.9% inflation. Who in there right minds can hold 2% bonds. The 10 year will pass 3% on the way to 4% and maybe fast if Ben stops the Twist in June as planned !

Ben should stress-test his carrying costs should the 10-year move to 3% or more. Deficit would ramp faster than AAPL!

Rising yields may pose a big risk to dollar strength. If the Fed can't engage in QE to keep them down it will impede further government stimulus and deficit spending while also spurring inflation. What may seem bearish for precious metals may in fact be bullish.

Rising interest rates are likely due to futures and etfs and not an exit from bond positions. Government bond auctions are still doing well and there is no sign that there is a lot of cash around looking for a home.
