Man bites dog: Occidental Petroleum (OXY -0.3%) paid its top exec less in 2011, despite seeing profits increase to $6.8B from $4.5B the prior year. CEO Stephen Chazen still took home a tidy $38.1M, according to a SEC filing.

    For most of America's entrenched business behemoths, most CEO's have to do very little things differently to collect their massive pay packets.
