- California has joined a whistle-blower lawsuit against BP, alleging the company overcharged the state by as much as $300M for natural gas over nearly a decade.
- The lawsuit says California gave BP an exclusive deal to provide $2B in natural gas for state government agencies, universities and medical centers; the case alleges BP sellers routinely charged above market price and the company reaped a profit margin at least 3x more than the contract allowed.
- BP denies the allegations.
