Amazon Web Services (AWS) has given its blessing to open-source APIs that allow its cloud infrastructure solutions to work with privately-owned clouds. By doing so, Amazon (AMZN) stands to expand AWS' reach with businesses worried about fully relinquishing control of their cloud infrastructure to a third party - a fear rival Microsoft has leveraged in promoting its Azure platform, which can be used for either public or private clouds.
