Though global chip sales barely grew last year, chip foundries saw their revenue grow 5.1% Y/Y, estimates Gartner, thanks to strong demand from chip developers servicing the mobile device market. TSMC (TSM) remained the industry's dominant player, growing its share 170 bps to 48.8%. #2 player UMC, however, saw its share drop 140 bps to 12.1%, and #4 SMIC (SMI) saw its share fall 110 bps to 4.4%.
