Is Samsung (SSNLF.PK) planning to take on Intel (INTC) and AMD in the server CPU market? The company has hired several prominent AMD engineers and execs, and an exec at startup Calxeda, which is developing ARM-based (ARMH) server CPUs for H-P, sees the moves as evidence a rival product is in the works. Samsung has said it will boost its R&D and capex 27% this year, with processors an area of focus.

Samsung is ambitious if leaving its core competency to get into this space. I don't really see the play and as an Intel investor don't see much to worry about from that. ARM chips chance of breaking into the server market are probably lower than INTC's chance of becoming the biggest player in the mobile market.

I'm so worried that I just put in an order to buy more Intel.
Look for blow out earnings and an increase with it's dividend.

Wait for the hedgies to start buying - we will see $50 by next year.

I bought in at $20 so I think I'll just let it run for a while. Seems like a winner to me.

I'd read that TSMC was having troubles at the 28nm node, but not sure about Samsung. Anyone know? I know that Intel is going to launch 22nm Ivy Bridge this June, which means they're manufacturing it now, but wasn't sure if Samsung was having the same problems that TSMC and GlobalFoundries were reported having...
