Unhappy with Amazon's (AMZN) Kindle, some newspapers and magazines forge alliances with consumer-electronics firms to create alternative e-readers. High on the request list: better pricing and subscriber options, and a better layout for advertising.

    ...."alternative e-readers" -- like there haven't been any around the past 7-8 years????...but Amazon singelehandedly "Kindle" practically a household name....and that "better layout for advertising"?!...yeah, right, that ought to attract herds of buyers!...

    Better layout for advertising?? Why would I buy any of these readers if I have to look at ads? I'd buy a BOOK instead!
