Under pressure from an activist shareholder, Target (TGT) is adding mini-groceries to some of its stores in the hope that recession-proof foods will help its sales rebound.

Good for Target. I've thought they should do this for awhile.

I occasionally shop at Target for goods, but 4 times out of 5, I'm just going because they have discounts on grocery items and the Target brand stuff is good quality to be so inexpensive. I'd actually like to see Target open up stand-alone groceries, if not create more "Super Targets".

Target's grocery centers are a lot better than Wal-Mart's both due to better management (better stocked, more emphasis on quality) and the excellent Target brands (compared to godawful Sam's Choice!), so it doesn't make sense to me why they have not been moving more in that direction.
