It's the girls from Brazil that Coty's after in its $10B play for Avon (AVP), Coty Chairman Bart Becht says. The country is the world's 3rd-largest beauty market and the Avon Lady is the queen of cosmetics there. Meanwhile, Bloomberg reports that Coty would effect Avon's turn around as a private firm rather than as a combined public company.

With 10 years personal experience at Avon long ago in late 60's and thru much of 70's and even with only junior marketing experience in marketing including Brazil and travel there, that's one major plum Coty could be interested in capturing. Add to that a strong Mexico Avon market and smaller Venezuela and Argentina penetration where the Avon lady is every bit as relatively strong. It's a market where someone shouting through and rattling at your gate is welcomed into your home, much as that stranger was more welcomed in North American homes more 50-75 years ago when people were more open and receptive and when the lady of the house was likely at home raising 2.7 children rather that working outside the home. Coty has done some homework and some fresh new makeup and a splash of allure is long overdue.
