Microsoft (MSFT), long public enemy #1 for open-source software developers, is spinning off a subsidiary focused specifically on open-source projects. Called Microsoft Open Technologies, the spinoff's goal may be to allow Microsoft to contribute to open-source platforms such as Hadoop and Drupal while staying clear of the legal issues that would result if contributions were made by the company proper.

    Another good investment is Intel. Look for them to blow away earnings on Tuesday and to announce a better than expected dividend increase and stock buy back.
