Why Apple (AAPL) might have made a better choice than Cisco (CSCO) to replace GM in the Dow Jones 30.

    I think VISA would have been better, but since the DOW is only 30 stocks it is not all that good an indicator anyway.

    A consumer electronics company that doesn't even have dominant market share in some of its product lines over Cisco?

    Too expensive - they'd have to split 4:1 before they could enter the Dow without really screwing up the index.

    Apple is a speculative play with a very wide fluctuating price and a short history of success. It doesn't belong in the Dow.

    I consider Apple a noncomformist company. The powers that be would never consider a company that doesn't play by their rule book.

    CSCO = 112 Bil market cap
