- Leland Wilkinson, well-known in statistics research/academic circles for his creation of the SYSTAT statistical/graphics software package in the early '80s, has been hired by Tableau (NYSE:DATA -1.4%) to be its VP of statistics. He'll "contribute to Tableau's research and development efforts in the areas of scientific visualization, statistical graphics, and predictive analysis."
- Tableau, which has long trumpeted the ability of its BI/data visualization software to be used by non-technical workers, has recently stepped up its efforts to support more advanced data analysis. Tableau 9.0 (launched earlier this spring) brought with it support for statistical data files.
