Ex GTE ( now Verizon )Labs scienctist and researcher ,I am still active in photonic reseach at CUNY . Verzion is the leader in fiber communication . Light offer more adances over it cousin the electron. More information can be carried by light . Optical wireless for local can be important. New types of light beams offer even more information to be carried and faster, I invent the the supercontinuum while at GTE labs , the ultimate white light source spanning now from 280 nm to 2200nm using special optical fibers . Light is carried over glass fiber like copper wire carry electrons.

Our modern day of live and technoghloy is based on electrons called electronics, today the photon ( light particle ) creates photonics. Soon the combimation and all optics will change our and the lives of out children and grand children.

It is too bad most reserch today is done by unversities not major companies as it used to be done in the 7- and 80s. We need a new golden age in the US so company can return to make thinks out of light and new material on the nano scale-- nanophotonics
