- Cablevision (NYSE:CVC) says it's increased the downstream speed of its core high-speed Internet offering, to 25 Mbps from 15 Mbps.
- That tier of Optimum Online starts at $39.99/month, and the speed increase is being offered at no incremental cost, similar to Time Warner Cable's "Maxx" upgrades in supported cities. The company also offers tiers with download speeds of 50 Mbps, 75 Mbps and 101 Mbps.
- The speed upgrade happens to fit into the FCC's new definition of broadband speed, which it raised to 25 Mbps down/3 Mbps up, from 4 Mbps down/1 Mbps up.
