A source tells BI Apple's (AAPL) Internet software/services chief is on the lookout for social media M&A targets. The fact Apple has thus far shied away from consumer Internet acquisitions in favor of buying small technology providers (I, II, III) is a reason to be skeptical about this rumor. However, Apple did reportedly make a bid for Dropbox in '09, and its social media efforts thus far have flopped.

A social media target would be a small, undervalued (or Pre-IPO) one for Apple to be interested. They are in no rush to buy another company.
